Transferring an already registered domain name entails changing the registrar company that handles the registration service, so after the transfer itself, you will have to manage things like renewal fees or DNS resource record updates through the new registrar. The transfer process is standard with most universal and country-specific top-level domain name extensions. Certain country-code extensions are more specific and involve different procedures, but in the general case transferring a domain name involves a few basic procedures and one of them is unlocking the domain name. The domain lock is a security feature, which is being embraced by more and more registry operators. It is a default feature supported by all gTLDs. If a domain name is locked, it will be impossible to start a transfer procedure, so no one can even attempt to steal your domain name. The lock can be removed only through the account where the domain name is registered in the first place and all new domains that support this functionality are locked by default when they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Shared Hosting

Locking and unlocking a domain registered through us is amazingly easy. This can be done through the Hepsia Control Panel, which comes with our shared plans, and will require exactly two clicks of the mouse. All your domain names will be shown in alphabetical order in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel and next to those whose extensions support the registrar lock option, you’ll see a padlock-like logo. Click on it once and you’ll see the domain’s present status. Click once again and you will alter its status. The update will propagate instantaneously without the need for you or for us to do anything else for the status to be updated on WHOIS lookup websites, so you can go ahead with the transfer right away.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Servers

Locking or unlocking any domain registered through us is amazingly easy and can be achieved through the Hepsia Control Panel – the one via which you manage your semi-dedicated server. You will find all your domains in the Registered Domains section and those whose extensions support the registrar lock feature will have a padlock icon next to them. You can unlock any domain name by clicking on its icon and since the update will propagate instantly, you’ll be able to start the transfer procedure without the need to wait for the registrar lock status to change on WHOIS sites. If you reconsider your decision and opt not to transfer the domain away from us, locking it again will be just as easy and will not take more than a couple of mouse clicks in your Control Panel.
